Dow's Port

Dow's — Douro Valley's Driest Vintage Port

Dow's was established in 1798 and is today part of the Symington Family Estates — one of the great port dynasties of the Douro Valley. The Symington family has farmed the steep schist terraces of the Douro for five generations, and Dow's sits at the drier, more structured end of the Symington portfolio, producing vintage ports that are known for their tannic backbone, complexity, and remarkable longevity.

Dow's declares a vintage only in exceptional years. Their ports are aged at the lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia across the river from Porto, where the cooler Atlantic air slows the ageing process and preserves the wines' natural acidity. A Dow's vintage is a long-term investment: most require at least 20 years before they open up fully, and the very best can evolve for half a century.
