Glengyle Distillery — Kilkerran, Campbeltown's Revival
Glengyle Distillery reopened in 2004 after more than 80 years of silence, becoming part of the remarkable comeback of Campbeltown — once Scotland's whisky capital, reduced to three distilleries by the late twentieth century. Owned by Hedley Wright of the Mitchell family (who also own Springbank), Glengyle produces Kilkerran single malt: a whisky that is firmly, proudly Campbeltown in character.
Kilkerran is aged slowly, bottled without chill-filtration or colouring, and released in small batches that reflect the natural variation of the casks. The house style is lightly peated, with a maritime salinity, waxy texture, and a depth that rewards patience. The 12 Year Old is widely regarded as exceptional value for the quality it delivers.
