Campbeltown used to have over 30 distilleries. Now there are three. Glengyle — which makes Kilkerran — only reopened in 2004 after a century of silence, and it was worth the wait.

The 12 year is the easy entry point: coastal salinity, heather honey, a whisper of peat that doesn't try to be the whole personality. It drinks beautifully neat, and punches well above its price point. Nobody argues with us about that.
